Macy's
Write your resolution, then take the portrait.

Macy's reached out to The Self-Portrait Project directly after encountering an installation mirror at Artists & Fleas Soho, commissioning a New Year rejuvenation activation. What made it sing was the interactive twist: a sheet of transparent plexiglass between guest and mirror that let participants literally write their resolutions onto their own portrait.
The brief
Macy's contacted The Self-Portrait Project directly after experiencing one of its installation mirrors at Artists & Fleas Soho. They commissioned a custom activation built around New Year rejuvenation and intention-setting, to be staged inside their retail environment.
What we built
The activation placed a sheet of transparent plexiglass between participants and a custom photo mirror. Guests wrote, drew, or imagined their New Year intentions on the plexiglass before triggering their self-portrait, so the resolution became part of the image. Participants could then share their portrait via iPad or take home a printed keepsake. The installation ran for two days within the cosmetics section of Macy's San Francisco flagship store, where SPP guided a steady stream of participants through the process.
The outcome
Over the two-day run the activation captured 1,637 images, drove 1,080 shares, and generated 365,040 impressions. Macy's also reported a lift in cosmetics sales during the activation period: up 8% against the same dates the prior year and up 18% against the same dates two years earlier.
