Barneys New York × Thom Browne
Two mirrors, two floors, Thom Browne's world.

For the Barneys × Thom Browne collaboration, The Self-Portrait Project installed two custom interactive photo mirrors on the 4th floor of the Barneys New York flagship — one in the Men's section, one in the Women's. Designed hand-in-hand with Barneys' creative department, the booths paired Thom Browne-themed backgrounds and branded borders with a frictionless, guest-triggered self-portrait experience.
The brief
Create a branded, in-store photo moment for the Barneys New York × Thom Browne collaboration that fit the flagship's aesthetic and carried Thom Browne's world into a shareable guest experience. The activation called for two installations — one in the Men's section and one in the Women's — on the store's 4th floor, developed in close partnership with Barneys' creative department on both mirror design and themed backgrounds.
What we built
Two interactive photo mirrors let guests trigger their own studio-quality self-portraits using button remotes. Thom Browne-themed backgrounds included one featuring a canine character from the short film 'Anatomy of a Suit' playing on repeat, and shared images carried custom photo borders with the hashtag #THOMBROWNEXBARNEYS. Guests shared their portraits through an iPad running a custom app with opt-in waiver language, with vinyl decals on the mirrors and surrounding columns guiding them through the flow.
The outcome
Over a 31-day run, the two installations captured 7,607 images and produced 4,818 shares, generating 486,618 impressions across the activation.
