Barneys New York

Every share, five dollars to Save the Children.

Barneys New York's 2018 holiday campaign, Make Change, turned guest self-portraits into charitable giving in partnership with Save the Children. Guests triggered their own portraits at a jumbo custom interactive mirror, and each social post using #CENTIMENTS sent $5 from the Barneys New York Foundation to Save the Children.

The brief

For its 2018 holiday campaign, Make Change, Barneys New York partnered with Save the Children and wanted an activation that converted guest participation into donations. The mechanic was cause-driven: for every social post using the hashtag #CENTIMENTS, the Barneys New York Foundation donated $5 to Save the Children.

What we built

The Self-Portrait Project installed one of its jumbo-sized custom interactive photo mirrors with a foot-trigger remote, letting guests capture their own self-portraits against a neon backdrop. Images were shared on the spot via an attached iPad running the custom SPP Events app, which pushed each portrait to social with the #CENTIMENTS hashtag.

The outcome

Over a 48-day run, the activation captured 2,819 images and generated 1,808 social shares and 182,608 impressions, with each qualifying post triggering a $5 donation to Save the Children.
