A mirror room of 1,760 panels, minted to the guest list.

For a16z crypto's NFT Week activation, The Self-Portrait Project was installed inside a glowing 360-degree mirror room of 1,760 panels on a Tribeca rooftop. Guests used their own phones as wireless camera remotes to trigger studio-quality self-portraits, which were later composited and sent to their crypto wallets as a Proof-of-Attendance NFT.
The brief
a16z crypto wanted a memorable, on-brand experience for its exclusive NFT Week guest list that fit the crypto community and gave the firm a way to reconnect with attendees after the event. The solution centered on a self-portrait activation whose output could double as a collectible, wallet-native keepsake.
What we built
The Self-Portrait Project system was installed into a 360-degree mirror room comprised of 1,760 individual mirror panels, built into a glowing room on a Tribeca rooftop. Using QR remote technology, participants turned their own mobile phones into wireless remote controls for the photo booth camera, receiving their images directly to their devices. Guests also provided their ERC20 wallet addresses at capture.
The outcome
Over the single-day activation, 179 images were captured. The portraits were composited and sent to guests as NFTs airdropped to the ERC20 wallets they provided. The NFT served a dual purpose: giving a16z a channel to reconnect with guests after the event, and providing a Proof-of-Attendance Protocol (PoAP) token tailored to the crypto community.
