Self Portrait Project
Installations

Permanent mirrors, running every day.

Mirrors live in venues across the country and in Taiwan — capturing thousands of self-portraits a week with no operator in the room. Because we own the full stack, each venue stewards its own mirror through a client dashboard, and every portrait flows into the same living archive.

How a permanent mirror works

Installed once, then it runs itself.

01

We build it into your space

A two-way mirror, a camera behind the glass, and a QR-linked shutter — fabricated to fit the room and left to run with no operator.

02

Guests author themselves

Anyone can step up, look into their own eyes, and take the picture — thousands of self-portraits a week, every week.

03

You steward the mirror

The venue manages its own mirror through a client dashboard, and every consented portrait flows into the living archive.

Case studies

What a permanent mirror becomes.

A mirror that runs for years becomes part of a place — a fixture guests return to, and an archive that deepens with every visit. A few of the installations doing exactly that.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

How is this different from a regular photo booth?

It's an interactive art installation disguised as a photo booth — a two-way mirror with a camera behind the glass, built custom into its space. Guests look into their own eyes and take the picture themselves, so what they make is a self-portrait, not a posed booth photo.

How does a venue get one — do we buy it or lease it?

It's a lease. We install the mirror in your space and maintain it for the length of the term, so there's no hardware for your team to own or troubleshoot. Because each installation is built custom to the room, we scope the specifics with you.

Who operates and maintains it — does our staff have to run it?

The mirror runs unattended — no operator on the floor and nothing for your staff to run. We service and maintain the hardware and software for the length of the lease; your team simply stewards its own mirror through a client dashboard.

What does our venue need to provide?

Just power and wifi. The system is versatile and adaptable — it can stand freestanding or be built into a wall, and we design each installation to fit the room, so it works in just about any venue.

How long is the commitment?

We're flexible on term and shape the commitment structure around what makes sense for your venue. Tell us your timeline and we'll build the lease around it.

Who owns the photos, and how does guest consent work?

Every guest keeps their own portraits, delivered to their phone. With each guest's consent, their self-portrait can also join the Self-Portrait Project's public living archive — sharing is always the guest's choice.

Host a mirror

Put a permanent mirror in your space.

Venues, museums, and public spaces host a mirror that runs every day and feeds the living archive. Tell us about the room.
