Spiegelworld — 99 Prince Bar
A photo booth built into a rewired 1980s pay phone.

For Spiegelworld's 99 Prince Bar (formerly DiscoShow) — an homage to New York City's disco era at The Linq Hotel in Las Vegas — the Self-Portrait Project built its latest concept into and out of a reclaimed phone booth. The team deconstructed and rewired an original Western Electric pay phone to interface with SPP's proprietary technology behind a two-way mirror, so guests trigger their own studio-quality self-portrait using the handset and coin release lever.
The brief
An homage to New York City's disco era, Discoshow is the latest entry from Spiegelworld, staged at The Linq Hotel in Las Vegas. The venue is organized into themed spaces — including 99 Prince, styled after a gritty NYC subway station serving classic cocktails; Glitterloft, an industrial space filled with over 2,000 balloons reminiscent of David Mancuso's Loft parties; and Diner Ross, a neighborhood 'finer diner.' The Self-Portrait Project's Phone Photo Booth was installed in the 99 Prince room, giving guests a way to capture and take home a piece of the immersive experience.
What we built
The Phone Photo Booth was built into and out of a reclaimed phone booth. SPP deconstructed and rewired an original Western Electric pay phone to interface with its proprietary technology, embedded behind a two-way mirror. To snap a self-portrait, participants follow directions given through the handset — entering their phone number and choosing how many photos to take — and the coin release lever triggers the camera's shutter. After hanging up, the participant receives a text with a link to their personal gallery, from which they can download images, add them to the Self-Portrait Project public archive, or print on-site.
The outcome
Discoshow transports guests to another era, and the Self-Portrait Project preserves a moment of that experience for them — a portal to bring it back into the present. The mirror runs nightly in the 99 Prince room, and the living portrait count above climbs with every guest who steps up to it.
