Self Portrait Project

From the mirror

You just took a self-portrait.

A two-way mirror, camera, and remote control — you are both model + photographer, deciding how you are seen. Since 2009, people have been taking photos using this unique system in bars, at weddings, in displacement camps, at Cannes, to the tune of more than two million portraits. The ones you choose to share become part of a living archive.

The Living Archive

See yourself reflected in others.

Since 2009, more than two million portraits have been made this way — each one taken by the person in it.

The ones people chose to share became a living archive. It doesn’t record a community so much as make one: everyone in it is both seen and seeing.

Yours can join them. That part is yours to decide.

Where the mirrors live

Three ways to be reflected.

The Self-Portrait Project

An experiential interface between art, technology, and community.

Not just a photo booth — a two-way mirror, a living archive, and seventeen years of people choosing how they’re seen.
