Self Portrait Project

Self-portrait photo booth in Los Angeles

The mirror heads west.

The Self-Portrait Project is New York's original two-way-mirror self-portrait booth — the method Andy Lin built in 2009 — now serving Los Angeles. You step up to a two-way mirror, hold a remote, and photograph yourself in studio-quality light — a real self-portrait, not a touchscreen selfie. You're the photographer, and you keep every frame.

InvestmentFrom about $1,500 — most events land between $1,500 and $5,000.

The difference

Not a magic mirror.

In Los Angeles, “mirror photo booth” usually means the interactive touchscreen — the magic mirror. This isn't that. Behind our glass is a real studio camera and lighting — no touchscreen to tap, no countdown to beat. You hold the remote and take the picture yourself, looking into your own eyes.

The result is a self-portrait, not a posed booth photo — and it's why guests actually share them. A good picture is always honest, and there's nothing more honest than someone authoring their own image, as they wish to be seen.

Across the city

From the Westside to Downtown, and the coast between.

The Westside

Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Culver City, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Brentwood — the premium wedding and brand corridor.

Downtown & Hollywood

DTLA and the Arts District for rooftops and galas; Hollywood for premieres, product launches, and fashion moments.

And beyond

Pasadena, the South Bay, and into Orange County for the right event — travel outside the core metro is simply quoted.

LA, answered

Questions from LA hosts.

How is this different from a magic-mirror photo booth?

In LA, “mirror photo booth” usually means the interactive touchscreen kind. This isn't that. Behind our glass is a real studio camera and lighting — no touchscreen, no countdown. You look into your own eyes and take the picture yourself with a remote, so what you make is a self-portrait, not a posed booth photo.

Where in Los Angeles do you go? Do you travel to Orange County?

We bring the mirror across the LA metro — the Westside (Malibu, Santa Monica, Culver City, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood), Downtown and the Arts District, Hollywood, Pasadena, the South Bay — and into Orange County and beyond for the right event. Travel outside the core metro is simply quoted per event.

How does it actually work?

It's a full-length two-way mirror with studio-quality light behind the glass. Guests step up, use a handheld remote, and photograph themselves. Our team is on hand to run the booth and help, but you're the one taking the picture. Portraits are delivered digitally, with on-site prints as an option, and every guest keeps their frames.

What kinds of LA events do you do?

Westside and destination weddings, corporate nights and galas, and brand activations built for LA's marquee moments — film premieres, product launches, and fashion events. We also build permanent installations for LA hotels, bars, restaurants, and attractions that want an always-on self-portrait experience.

What does it cost?

Most events land between $1,500 and $5,000, starting around $1,500; weddings typically run $1,500–$3,500, and fully custom brand activations start at $5,000, scaled to the build. Tell us your date and venue and we'll send an exact quote.

How do we book?

Make an inquiry with your date, venue, and the feeling you're after. We take a limited number of events at a time, so earlier is better for peak dates — but reach out anytime and we'll tell you what's open.
